ATCV Bush Day

Hi all, it's Molly here

Once a year the Airedale Terrier Club of Victoria meets "in the bush" during winter to celebrate Dalishness.

It's held at the Sorraghan's OLDIRON kennel property. They got all burnt down during the bushfires in February and this is all that's left of their original house...

Well, as long as there is an Airedale in the picture, it can't be that bad, right?!

That is exactly the Sorraghan's spirit. They are (and we are) so happy that they were able to save all their Dales and puppies and all survive the ember attacks just so we could have our annual gathering again last Sunday and sniff plenty of butt...

So we gathered around their temporary shed accommodation (which is actually quite warm and comfortable and not "sheddy" at all)...

And of course, we tried our best to score some barbeque delights in good old Dale fashion...

And some got the drools from the sheer thought of tasty sausage...

And of course we succeeded in scoring some tasty nosh. Here is the Awesome Foursome aka myself, Inky, Max and Pekoe being served by Maree...

I made sure I got an exceptionally big piece (Maree likes me a lot)...

Then it was time to take the pinkies on a walk. Everyone, follow me...

I indeed ran off on everydoggie so dad had to hurry along his skinny legs and try and find me. Because the forest was all burnt out not that long ago though, it was quite easy to spot me, apparently...

See the blurry Dale fuzz butt in the background, well, dad saw it and called me back. Because it was a nice day I decided to listen and re-join the group...

I must say, it all looked and smelled very different from last year...

And I could not for the life of me pick up the smell of that wombat whose house I went into on this same walk a year ago, when everybody had to come back all the way and find me. Mum said that all the wombats and other wildlife got burnt too. Very sad indeed...

Well, we had a good scoot around the forest anyway, running up and down the hills...

And Inky found some water to roll in even...

And here she is, ever so happy about the fact that there is A BODY OF WATER in the forest...

One thing about those devastating bushfires is though that the forest starts its recovery almost immediately after. See all the green shoots coming through already?...

The Pinkies say that the recovery of the man-made world will take a lot longer though.

The Sorraghan's had some help putting the kennel runs back together sooner rather than later so here are our friends that were penned up for the day...

My, how Blanche and Oprah have grown...

Back at the hub Mum couldn't resist to go into the puppy pen which of course put young Inkster into a state of consternation...

And it really ticked Inky off when mum picked up this young fellah for cuddles...

So it was decided that the pupsters would be best admired from the other side of the fence. Even I went and said hello as they were merely irresistible...

Inky finally shut up when all the attention was directed to HER (what a cry baby)...

Then Pekoe alerted us with her weather forecast...

And it was time to pack up shop before the heavens opened.

We all were sound asleep while the pinkies carted us home (2hrs) and are still feeling a little bit tired today from all the mongreling around with our Dale friends.

Thank you all for a great Sunday!!

Hope to see you in Geelong on the 25th for xmas in July.

Love,

MOLLY

  10. We did it again! Our paws got to moving too fast and we deleted our comment before it got approved! Grrrrr.. What we remember saying is: it made us sad to see all the charred destruction and to realize all the loss, but it made us really happy to know all the airedogs were saved and that you all were able to gather together to celebrate green popping out, friendship, life and love. It looks like it was a super great gathering.

We loved this post. Thanks for sharing it!
